Setting up RAS and disabling ICS

Hi,
I am trying to configure a Win2k3 server for Routing and Remote Access,
however when I use the Configure and Enable Action in the RRAS area I get the
'Please stop and disable Windows Firewall and ICS Service' etc.
So with this disabled and stopped I try again and get a 'ICS in current
enabled....please disable ICS and try again'.

So I think maybe I should check any modems and NICs that might have the
'Allow other network users to connect through this computer internet
connection' setting enabled, however on the advanced tab there is only the
Windows Firewall settings and not any of these ICS settings.

Further to my consternation this computer is not an ICS computer anyway as
we have a router/gateway already and use static IP addresses in a different
range from ICS.

Can anyone suggest a way to get past this point of where Win2k3 thinks that
ICS is enabled so that I can continue to configure the Remote Acces server
function.

Cheers
Simon

Assuming you installed SP1 on the windows 2003, make sure you don't enable firewall while enabling RRAS. this link may help,

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply.
The problem seems to have been that I had ICS enabled on the modem prior to
upgrading to SP!.
Once upgraded to SP1 all the settings on the Advanced Page for disabling the
ICS were no longer there, ie not just disabled they were missing entirely.

In the end I uninstalled SP1 and immediately the "Allow user to share this
connection...." check boxes were available to uncheck.
I took the opportunity to run the RRAS wizard at this point and it now ran
smoothly.
Did some VPN testing then reinstalled SP1.

Phew but all is sorted and working well.

Cheers
Simon
